Giant Bat, video
steel and aluminum
HWD 22' x 23' x 6'
This giant bat punctuates the transition between my vegetable garden and the wilderness beyond, scaring intruders (coyotes, mountain lion, hungry deer and raccoons…) away.
The satellite dishes in this sculpture were part of a scientific radio astronomy experiment at nearby Leuschner Observatory of the University of California at Berkeley. Its ears and nose are windmills made with bicycle wheels. They eyes have green solar powered LED lights that are seen from afar when driving up the steep entrance road to the property.
